Exploring the Cliffs NEVER gets old.

68-acres of epic ocean views, 40+ native plants, historical cliffs and caves formations, fascinating intertidal area, classic local surf spots, Sunset Cliffs as our classroom is as good as it gets!

 

Hiking the Cliffs' coastal trails and exploring the tidepools is a great hands-on, full-body way to connect kids to the environment and pique interest in a wide variety of land and aquatic animals & plants and their habitats. Together we will learn about:

- History of Sunset Cliffs, the land's indigenous people, the Kumeyaay

- Native plants & animals and why we care about them

- How/why plants cleverly change and adapt throughout the seasons

- What causes a tide and how the moon and sun are involved

- Why/when there are low and high tides

- The resilient animals that live in intertidal zones

- How tides affect wave shape & different surf spots

Program dates: February 16th & 19th, 2024

Ages: K-5th grade

Days of program: Friday 2/16 & Monday 2/19

Meeting location: Sunset Cliffs

Daily essentials: water bottle, snacks/lunch, sunscreen, walking/hiking shoes, sweatshirts/jackets/weather-appropriate wear that's ok to get a little dirty and wet :)

1 day $85

  • Payment plans available upon request.

  • Sibling discount: 20% off second sibling.

  • Venmo, Zelle, Paypal, Cash or Check are acceptable forms of payment.

10:00-10:15 Arrive & ground into the space

10:15-10:35 Opening circle

10:35-11:05 Bathroom/Sunscreen/Snack

11:05-11:35 Tides/Trees Lesson

11:35-12:45 Tides/Trees Hike & Exploration

12:45-1:15 Lunch 

1:15-1:45 Tides/Trees Craft

1:45-2:00 Closing circle & pack up to go home

Cancellation/Refund Policy:

- Security deposits are non-refundable.

- Cancellation must be made 24 hours before the start of the session to receive a refund. Once the session begins, no refund will be given.

- During the session, if you cannot attend a class due to illness, travel etc. no refund or makeup of the class can be made.

- If Ocean School needs to cancel class for any reason, we will make every attempt to make up the class at another date. If this is not possible, the class will be refunded.
