"Locals Summer"
Afterschool
We are so lucky to have "Locals' Summer" as the weather tends to stay beautiful and sunny and the beaches are much less crowded. It's typically the best season in San Diego and our favorite time of the year!

This program is ideal for first-time, beginner or experienced-beginner students who are excited to build confidence in the water and spark friendships in a supportive community.
Fall "Locals' Summer" Afterschool Program includes both on-shore and in-water practice with American Red Cross First Aid/CPR certified instructors each day.​​​​
Fall 2025 Dates:
August 19th-October 23rd
Ages: K-5th grade
We are Beginner friendly...No swim prerequisites required!
Meeting Times:
Wednesdays: 1:30-3:30p & 3:45-5:45p
Thursdays: 1:30-3:30p & 3:45-5:45p
What are we learning?
All of our learnings and activities tie back to the 3 Pillars of Ocean School: 1) Respect the Ocean 2) Love the Ocean and 3) Give back to the Ocean.
Kids will learn: Love and respect for the ocean and how to stay safe. Practical knowledge about the ocean (IE: tides, wind, waves, swell, rip and longshore currents, beach/reef/point breaks and famous waves around the world). FUNctional high-impact games & exercises that promote body awareness, positive body image, teambuilding and camaraderie with one another. In-water practice. How to give back to ocean, take care of our environment and feel empowered through small day-to-day actions that make a huge difference.

Typical daily schedule (2 hours):
0:00-0:10 Settling in/child-led games while children arrive
0:10-0:25 Opening circle
0:25-1:00 On-shore practice: warm-ups and FUNctional exercises, ocean knowledge & safety lesson
1:00-1:45 In-water practice
1:45-2:00 Closing circle
2:00 Parents pick up​

Fall 2025 Sessions Dates:
Session 1 (5 weeks): 8/20-21; 8/27-28; 9/3-4; 9/10-11; 9/17-18
Session 2 (5 weeks): 9/24-25; 10/1-10/2; 10/8-9; 10/15-16; 10/22-23​​

Price Per Session (5 weeks):
$770 for 2 days/week
$410 for 1 day/week

Price is sliding scale and payment plans are available.

Sibling discount: take 20% off second sibling.

Venmo, Zelle, Cash or Check are acceptable forms of payment.​

​Cancellation/Refund Policy:
- Security deposits are non-refundable.​
- Cancellation must be made 24 hours before the start of the session to receive a refund. Once the session begins, no refund will be given.
- During the session, if you cannot attend a class due to illness, travel etc. no refund or makeup of the class can be made.
- If Ocean School needs to cancel class for any reason, we will make every attempt to make up the class at another date. If this is not possible, the class will be refunded.​
