Surf Friends:
A Semi-Private / Small Group Class
Surf Friends is an intimate semi-private/tiny group experience that allows for not only individualized instruction and support, but also the FUN, added motivation and camaraderie of getting to connect and learn alongside peers.
We have a 3:1 student-coach ratio for students' utmost safety and support, personalized instruction and for them to cultivate deep and meaningful connections and community.

Friday PM's (between 3:30-5:45pm)
Saturday AM's (between 9:00-11:30am)
Sunday AM's (between 9:00-11:30am)
Each class is 1 hour 15 mins in length.
Class start times are mindfully coordinated with ocean conditions to score the most favorable and safe learning conditions and best experience possible for our students.

In all of our years of coaching, creating and facilitating ocean camps and afterschool programs, we've found that a majority of students are most motivated, engaged and connected in a semi-private or small group setting.
A small group gives time and space for deeper connection and allows for friendships that otherwise may not have formed to occur.
As coaches, we want to truly get to know each of the students we get to work with. In a small group, we are able to spend more time connecting one on one with each student and offer individualized instruction and support. Every student has their own story, experience, pace and journey and there is no “timeline.” In a semi-private/small group setting, we can meet students wherever they are at, encourage and guide them from there. We honour their unique path and progress without comparison.
There’s a beautiful unlocking that can happen amongst peers in a small group; a realization of “if they can do it, so can I.” We’ve witnessed students who, at first, wanted nothing to do with the water all of a sudden charge in the moment they see their friends go. They can feed off each others’ enthusiasm and stoke. Together, we are braver and stronger. Breakthroughs can happen faster. In times of difficulty or greater challenge, their network of coaches and peers is there to support them and remind them that they’re never alone. Learning together is more fun!
It’s all in the name–SURF FRIENDS–this is a container that fosters healthy, positive, meaningful and supportive connections amongst peers. We model respect, kindness, cheering others on, sharing waves, treating others how they would like to be treated.
Our hope is that Surf Friends can inspire friendships, connections and community that extends beyond these classes and into days of ocean playdates, beach meetups, even a lifetime of chasing waves together.
